Welcome to my portfolio for the Doctorate in Educational Leadership Program

I'm currently completing the first year of my Doctorate in Educational Leadership program and my focus topic will surely impact my life as a Black female leader for years to come. I believe the Black female voice has been misrepresented and little to no space has been created for her to be heard. I experience the challenges that intersectionality of race and gender presents
Today, I am a proud principal of a PreKindergarten-8 school in the Saint Paul Public Schools. My twenty-five years with SPPS were both challenging and rewarding and has shaped me to be the leader I continue to grow to be.
Prior to administration, my first fifteen years blessed scholars in grades 2nd, 5th, and 6th in an arts-infused educational program. Teaching with multiple intelligence in mind while teaching in and through the arts is fascinating. Though I miss teaching in the classroom I was drawn to the call of administration to teach and lead adults. Fast forward ten years later, I find myself back where I began my teaching career only this time as principal.
My personal and professional journey has grown who I am as a leader. I am a courageous leader that is not afraid to talk about race and how race impacts everything we do as a staff, with scholars and their families. I believe "Academics, Achievement, and Access is for ALL with no exceptions."
My husband of eighteen years and two of our three children live in the Como Park area in St. Paul. Our eldest son and his wife live in Washington state. They have blessed us with two beautiful grandchildren who live too far away from our hugs and kisses. FaceTime has become our next best way to share time with them.
My immediate family is gifted in several art disciplines. Each one of us engages in a combination of the arts by way of acting, drawing, singing, writing, and or playing an instrument. Making music as a family is one of our favorite ways of sharing time together and we look forward to it. The arts also keeps us sane.
